Resurrection Sunday: Beginning Fresh When No Hope Exists

Compassionate Love: Displaying compassion for those who struggle with mental illness   (c) 2018 Nancy Virden, Always The Fight Ministries

No hope.

Zero. Nada. No reason to entertain the idea of a tomorrow, let alone a worthwhile one.

Is this where you are?

Sometimes we are in need of resurrection – to be raised back to life because our souls, minds, dreams, and desires are cold-stone dead. We do not believe love exists for us. We’re convinced other people will be better off if we are gone.

At a loss in the beginning

2000 years ago, many people gave up everything to follow Jesus.  A select few, know as “The Twelve” were his closest disciples. They spent nearly every day with him for three years.

He taught and challenged these men. They were sent out on training missions – supervised trial runs if you will. On these trips they were thrown into the real world, with nothing but prayer to keep them alive and well.

At the end of one such mission, two returned feeling a little defeated. They had been trying to perform a miracle as they’d seen Jesus do, and failed. He instructed them again.

And again.  And again.

Then he died.

These men were at a loss. They had relied on him, were in the middle of learning, and now what did they have? No doubt some of them felt ill-equipped, possibly hopeless. They had placed all their bets on him. Wasn’t he supposed to be the promised one, the Messiah waited for by their entire culture?

Jesus could not be more gone than dead.

God breathes life into hope

A few women were the first to see his empty grave. Then he was standing there in plain sight and speaking to their hearts! They ran to tell the men that Jesus was alive. The men had to see for themselves, and still questioned whether he was a ghost. Jesus showed them his scars from the crucifixion and sat and ate with them, until finally his closest friends and followers believed.

He who had been dead was alive!

Your resurrection awaits

Jesus is proof that God raises the dead. There is new life, a worthwhile life, available for anyone who dwells in the darkness of no hope.

My story of resurrection from deadness of spirit and attempted suicide is further proof that God will do marvelous things when we ask. I hope you will make this day the one you reach out for help and begin your resurrection.
